Topics:  How to create a lifestyle of learning, goal setting and record
keeping, methods and materials for elementary grades, taking the
frustration out of math, relaxed unit studies, using children’s literature, etc.

Mary Hood and her husband, Roy, have been homeschooling since the
early 1980’s.  Four of their children have graduated and gone on to college
and successful adult lives, leaving one “child” still at home (a 6’3” varsity
baseball player).  Mary has a Ph.D. in education, and is the author of such
books as the Relaxed Home School, The Joyful Home Schooler, and the
Enthusiastic Home Schooler.  She is a frequent speaker at the LINK
conference in Los Angeles.  She is the director of the Association of
Relaxed Christian Home Educators also known as Archers for the Lord.

ICE SKATING

DATE:        Monday, November 5, 2007
TIME:        9:15 AM — 11:45 NOON
COST:        $6.00 per person (includes skate rental)
PLACE:        Pasadena Ice Skating Center, 310 East Green Street,
Pasadena next to Civic Auditorium.
PARKING:   $7.00 in the Sheraton lot -or- across the street at the Paseo
Pasadena shopping mall $1.00 per hour with a validation from the mall (no
purchase required).  
BEGINNERS:   wear mittens, gloves, or warm socks on hands.

This is a great opportunity for all ages.  There will be a 25-minute lesson
followed by a free skate period.  We will have the rink to ourselves (or
possibly with another small group) so your skaters can practice their skills
without fear of being mowed down by more experienced skaters.  
Teens:  This is a great chance to meet other teens.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE:  Physical Education, Socialization, Fun !

HOLYLAND EXHIBITION

The Holyland Exhibition is in a two-story corner house that was built in the
late 1920’s.  It contains an incredible collection of priceless Egyptian and
Biblical items.  The Bible Art and Archaeology Room has stones, shells,
and pottery from Nazareth, Bethlehem, and the Jordan River.  Come take a
trip to the Middle East via the Holyland Exhibition.

Join us as we discover the incredible marine creatures local to the Santa
Monica Bay area.  The Discovery Hour program provides a hands-on
experience.  Touch and learn about many different animals we encounter
along our coast, from sea stars and sea anemones to sharks and rays.  
Discover what microscopic wonders surround us in the sea or venture onto
the sandy beach that surrounds the Roundhouse Aquarium.

We have two tours scheduled:  one for grades K-3, another for grades 4-
12.  This is a great museum and an absolute must for high school
students.  They also have a wonderful  and age appropriate program for
the little ones.  Don’t be afraid of driving downtown.  With convenient
parking across the street, this is really easy.
